Boomerang

It seems like in life, you’ll have boomerangs. Whether they be situations or people, you’ll have them.

Recently, I’ve had a person come back into my life… someone I never thought would come back to my life, and it’s made me so happy.

I first met this person back in 2004, when I was in 8th grade. We clicked right away and became best friends. Like most of my friends at the time, this person was a guy, so naturally, us being so close in such a short amount of time, our classmates all assumed we were dating. This was pretty much what our classmates thought over the next two years. We would always hear, “are you two dating?” and of course, we’d have to say, “no.” For myself, it was annoying at first, but then I just decided to not let it bother me.

The summer before sophomore year, we did eventually end up dating. I kind of hate the fact we were the ‘boy-girl best-friends turned couple” cliche, but I guess there really is no other better kind of pairing. Anyway, long story short, we were together for a year and a half but I was the one that ended up calling it off and breaking up with him. Earlier in our relationship we had promised that no matter what happened we’d stay friends, but that didn’t happen. I don’t blame him in the least for not talking to me after we broke up, I really don’t.

So that was 6 years ago that we broke up and 6 years since we’ve talked.

A few weeks ago I went into a store downtown and he happens to work there. We’ve made very small talk before when we’ve bumped into each other, but this time, he came over to me and we ended up talking for an hour. One whole hour! (Give or take a few minutes..) And then earlier this week we ended up hanging out. There’s no hard feelings, no awkwardness… it was almost like that whole not-talking period of our lives ever happened… well, except the fact that we talked about what was going on in our lives, but still. We just clicked back together like we used to be.

People like to say you can’t be friends with an ex, or someone that you hurt or hurt you, etc. I’ve always believed you can because I know for a fact that God will restore any and all broken relationships. It wasn’t a coincidence that he came up and talked to me in the store a few weeks ago. I had been praying for years that we’d be able to talk again, whether it be as acquaintances or friends, I just wanted to talk to him again. God answered my prayer that day and I know He has a purpose for us talking again. I don’t what that is, but I know I”ll find out in His time.

So, that’s it. I just really felt like sharing this and giving hope to those who are going through a similar situation.
