The Friday Five: Blogger Love v.19

All I have to say is that this week flew by!  I’m in shock it’s Friday already, and a little bummed.  It felt like I had all week to get things done and now it’s over.  Someone please slow down summer.

So one thing I’m looking forward to is going away to Vermont for a few days in June.  I know I want to travel to new states, but my mom and I just loved Vermont so much last year we couldn’t wait to go back!

  3. 5 Tips for Dealing With Social Anxiety by A Grande Life.  For those of us who have social anxiety, but are trying to get past it.
  4. 4 Arguments For Why You Should Write Everyday by Tipsy Writer.  I agree with every single one of these arguments – especially about writing being therapeutic!
  5. 17 Before 17 by 99+ Sly Thoughts.  A short explanation of a list he recently made of 17 things he wants to do before his next birthday.  I’ll admit that I’ve been thinking of doing something similar to this.  Also, his brother Seth posted his own 17 Before 17 post the other day.  It’s fun to see what people’s goals are and encourage them to achieve them!

Quick Instagram Shots

Like many others, I take Instagram pictures when I’m out… and this includes for when I’m out eating. Not all the time, mind you, but once in a while when I see the shot, I take it. There was one time when my mom and I were at Olive Garden and I couldn’t resist taking a picture of my favorite beverage – their raspberry-peach iced tea.

olive garden peach iced tea

What I didn’t expect from this picture was that the official Olive Garden Instagram account would come across this picture (even though I had used #olivegarden in the caption). Whoever runs the account said it was a great picture and asked if they could repost it on their account and of course I said “yes!”

olive garden iced tea repost

When I first saw that comment I couldn’t believe it. I think it actually took me a few minutes before I could actually reply. I never expected that to happen and not that anything else really happened, like getting more followers or something, but it was just a great feeling to have a picture of mine noticed by an official account rather than just another person.

So the moral of this post… try the raspberry-peach iced tea at Olive Garden. It’s really good!

Top 3 Worst Places to Get Sunburn

Summertime is calling my friends!

With only a few weeks until the official start of summer, I think some of us have already gotten a taste of what’s coming in the next few months… and I’m not talking about the temperature.

I’m talking about, sunburn.

top 3 worst places for sunburn

Yes, sunburn, the second downfall of the spring and summer seasons (the first would be bugs, of course).

If you are a very pale individual such as myself and are susceptible to the dreaded lobster skin after a day out in the sun, be sure to load up on that sunscreen to avoid the pain and peeling of burnt skin.  Of course, being me, I often forget to put sunscreen on certain parts of my body, or just in general, and end up with some bad burns each year.  And you can bet I always get at least one red nose during the season (I’m already up to two… my bad).

While sunburn is painful no matter where you get it on your body, I believe there are a a few particular spots that you really want to avoid getting sunburn on… three to be exact.  I have gotten burnt on these parts before and let me tell you, these are terrible spots to have sunburn!

Top 3 Worst Places to Get Sunburn:

  1. Scalp //  Even if you have a full head of hair, be very careful being out in the sun all day without a hat.  Since it’s impossible to get sunscreen on your scalp with hair, you can bet you’ll get a sunburn somewhere where your hair parts without protection.  I currently have a burn there and the pain when washing and drying my hair is intense.  So remember to wear those hats people!
  2. Ears //  It might not seem that bad to get sunburn on your ears, but you’ll regret forgetting to get sunscreen on them when you have a sudden itch and you scratch your unnaturally red ear.  Thankfully my hair usually protects my ears, but during those extra hot days when my hair is in a ponytail, my ears get the burn.  Luckily, I remembered to slap some sunscreen on them the other day when I was out.
  3. Back of the Knees //  Weird spot, I know.  However, I have gotten sunburn on the backs of my knees multiple times and I can’t think of a worse spot other than the scalp than the knees.  This happened to me this year after being out in the sun on my birthday and the next few days were terribly painful for me.  Every single movement of the knees hurt, especially when it comes to climbing stairs.  Please, don’t be like me and neglect the backs of your knees when putting on the sunscreen!

Where are the worst places you’ve gotten sunburn?

The Friday Five: Blogger Love v.18

I have to say this week has been a bit weird.  The build up to graduation and my party last week, then the actual events happening literally took a toll on me physically and emotionally.  I didn’t realize how much of my energy went into the build-up before those two days and during them until this week.  I was just drained all week – the crash after the sugar high.

The change in my schedule has also taken its toll and Friday snuck up on me.  I spent 90% of yesterday thinking it was Wednesday.  I’m hoping next week will be a little easier on my brain.

  1. 3 Things You Should Know About Introverts by She Is Fierce.  As an introvert myself, I appreciate posts like this so that others can understand how introverts work.  What I really appreciate about the post is that Kiersten makes a point that introverts are not ant-social.
  2. Things to Do Instead of Adulting by Endless Bliss.  A list of things Tiffany would do if she could take some time off of being an adult, which makes me want to create my own list of things I’d do if I could not be an adult for a while.
  3. Life as an only child by Treelined Avenue.  A post I can relate to on just about every level as I am an only child myself.  I always wanted to write about my personal experience as an only child.  It’s nice to see I’m not the only one!
  4. What Would I Tell My Teenage Self? by FleurDanielle.  It’s funny how hindsight is 20/20, but you can’t do anything about it.  At the same time, it’s nice to look back and think about what you’d tell your past-self knowing what you know now.
  5. I’d Like To Imagine... by Something Sweet.  Just a thoughtful post about the happenings on her side of the screen.

It feels good to be back blogging regularly.  Finals week and the week of graduation were just chaotic for me.  I’m surprised I was able to sleep at all.  Anyway, I’m back and though I’m applying for jobs and will hopefully have some interviews soon, I will be writing on a  regular basis again.  I have a whole list of ideas I need to get working on!

Meanwhile, I think it’s time to share some of what I’ve been doing recently.

Class of 2015… We Did It! {weekend recap}

No more papers, lectures or overly-priced textbooks for this girl because as of Saturday, I am a college graduate!

graduation

All I can really say is that graduation weekend flew by!  Though the graduation ceremony itself seemed to take a long time due to the speeches and having well over 1700 undergrads walk the stage, it was all just a blur at the same time.  I was very nervous going into the center to gather with my fellow graduates since I was convinced I would not be able to find anyone I knew to stand with.  See, they had separated us by schools (College of Liberal Arts, Business, Education, and Engineering) and my best friend was in the school of Education while I was in Liberal Arts.  Thankfully, I found my friend Brendan and a few of his friends to stand with and sit with during the ceremony.  Having them around eased my nerves and made the experience great.

tabby vicky graduation

So even though I wasn’t around my best friend during the actual ceremony, the main thing is that we went through this together and it’s just another milestone that we’ll get to go through together.

The following day I had my graduation party, which was a blast!  The majority of people who came was my family, with a few friends included.  Since I don’t get to see them as much as I used to, it was great to see everyone and talk to them.  Going into the party I didn’t think I’d be moving around that much, but I found myself buzzing around to everyone.  The best part was seeing everyone together and getting along and I’m hoping they all had a great time because I know I did.  And I’m incredibly thankful that they came, that the weather was amazing, and for my mom and aunt for stressing over the party to get it together in the time they did – it was perfect.

grad photo tassel

Thinking back to January it seemed that graduation was so far away… then it was here, and gone.  I can’t help but think how most of this semester I spent just wanting May 16th to be here so I could be officially done with college.  I know I’ll miss it at times, but right now I’m very happy to be done.  I think I’m just relieved that I’ll no longer have to stress about doing research papers and having anxiety over grades.

So congratulations to the Class of 2015 all around!  We did it!

Letter to My Future-Self {graduation day}

letter to my future self 1

Dear Tabby of the future,

Remember today?  Today, May 16th, 2015, is your college graduation.

There’s a lot of emotions swirling in your mind right now – fear, joy and a bit of uncomfortableness as you’re writing this letter to yourself.  Really, it’s weird.

But that’s not what I want to talk to you about, the weirdness I mean.  Graduation.  This is huge.  It’s been five and a half years in the making to get to this point.  I know looking back I don’t remember the first day of college, so I’m sure you still don’t.  But remember how you got your license two days before starting community college?  That was definitely a blessing from God that you didn’t fail that test.  Otherwise not only would you have been stuck not being able to get to class, but Vicky wouldn’t have either.

Speaking of Vicky, she’s graduating today too… well, you know, you were there (or here?).  I think it’s amazing that you and Vicky not only started community college together, but you also transferred to the same state university and graduated from there together.  Even though after Northwestern you two didn’t get to see each other as much, especially due to your time at Liberty, you and Vicky still remained close.  I hope you’re still as close, whenever you’re reading this.

I don’t know where you’re working at the moment, but I hope it’s a job you love.  Maybe it’s even one of the jobs I applied to this past week, or maybe it’s completely different.  Again, I guess it depends on when you’re reading this.  Things change, a lot.

But what I want to get across in this letter to my future-self is that, well, everything is going to be okay.  I know you know that, you are my future-self after all, but even if you’re going through a rough period while you’re reading this letter… it’s going to work out.  God’s always with you and whatever you’re going through right now is just a way of getting closer to Him and making you a stronger child of God.  I mean, remember yesterday when you were upset about not getting that videographer job at the hospital?  I’m sure you know now exactly why that job wasn’t good for you, or maybe you never found out but don’t care because the job you have now is that much better.

See?  It works out.

I hope you’re doing good and that you’re still blogging… otherwise this is just awkward.

Well, it’s awkward anyway.

The Friday Five: Blogger Love v.17

I truly apologize for my lack of posting this week – it’s been a weird week.  Though classes and finals are over, there’s just been so much to do to get myself prepared for graduation tomorrow and my party on Sunday… I just simply haven’t had time to sit and write.

I’m hoping that this week will be more productive on the blog, since I’ll really only be applying for jobs this week.

  2. 3 Infused Waters to Stay Hydrated This Summer by The Lady Lawyer.  Summer is on the way, or for some people it’s already here, and staying hydrated is very important!  This list is good for people who aren’t crazy about just plain water, but want to stay hydrated.
  3. Caffeine Questions by Peanut Butter Fingers.  Ever wonder how much caffeine you are actually consuming with each drink?  Well, the answers are right in this post!
  4. College Versus Real Life by Endless Bliss.  Tiffany definitely covers the truths here.  I know I’ll miss having the college campus to walk around freely to keep myself in some kind of shape.
  5. Bible Verses for Motivation by That Southern Mama.  Life can really be hard, but with God in my life I know everything is going to be okay.  My go-to verse is usually Philippians 4:13, and more recently Romans 8:31 – “What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”

Letter to My First Love

letter to my first love

To my first love,

What can I say? You were my first love. From the moment you said you loved me, you stole a place in my heart that could never be replaced.

But more importantly, you were my best friend.  I know 3 years isn’t a long time in comparison with our entire lifespan, but those are 3 years that I cannot, and will not, forget.  You made me feel welcome when I was the new girl in school and we had an instant connection.  You even told me you loved me on the third day of school.  Our years were filled with adventures and laughter.

Then it all came crashing down when at the start of a new school year, you told me to stop talking to you.  So I did.  Even all these years later I’m still confused as to why; after all, we had spent quite some time together during the summer and everything was fine then.  But as hurt as I was, I stopped talking to you.

I hated you for a while, did you know that?  Probably not.  You were too busy with your new friends for the following years.  I hated you for throwing me aside like I was nothing while you could still remain friends with our classmates.  I hated you for not giving me a reason as to why you wanted me to stop being your friend.

Thankfully, that’s over now.

Sometime between junior and senior year, I just let it go.  I didn’t know what prompted me to at the time, but now I know it was God.  He helped me to let go of the anger and forgive you for hurting me.  I knew I had done right by God when you signed my yearbook senior year.  You only signed your name, but that was all I needed.

I know it sounds crazy to find your first love at 8-years old, and maybe we weren’t true first loves after all.

But no one, not even you, could deny we were first puppy loves.

The Friday Five: Blogger Love v.16

So I haven’t posted since Monday, but as you all know this was my last week of college, so I’d say that’s a viable excuse for not writing anything.

With that said, as of 2pm yesterday afternoon, I finished college.  I wasn’t sure how I was supposed to feel after my last final, so all I can say is that I was tired (but that’s probably due to the fact I woke up at 3:30am for no apparent reason).

I don’t actually graduate until May 16th, so it doesn’t really feel like I’m done yet.

But, in other news, I’ve got a few good blog posts I’d like to share!

  2. 7 Reasons Why I Kissed Online Dating Goodbye by A Deecoded Life.  I agree with all, which is why I’ve never crossed the idea of online dating and probably enough for other people to stop online dating.

The Final Countdown!

This. Is. It.

My last week of college.

my last week of college

Though last week was the final week of actual class lectures, I still have to count this week because I am still going about as a regular week.  The only difference is that I’ll be taking finals and finishing final projects.

I am done with one class entirely – which is my magazine journalism class.  We presented our final projects last week on a magazine we researched and followed throughout the semester.  I think I did okay, since I’m not great with public speaking, but the majority of our grades rest in our 2500-word papers we turned in the week before… thank God.

For this week I will be finishing my time at my internship, putting the final pieces into my BMX documentary project and taking a ‘final’ for meteorology.  I say ‘final’ loosely because it’s not covering all that we did the entire semester, only the last few chapters we covered.

After that, it’s done.  For the first time in my life, I will no longer be a student.

It’s almost as weird of a thought as turning 24 yesterday, if not more.

So to my fellow college bloggers, I wish you all luck in the final week or weeks of the semester!

This week, flew by!  I can’t believe it’s Friday already.  And all week I’ve had one song stuck in my head… Birthday by Selena Gomez.

I’m guessing it has to do with the fact my birthday is this weekend.  So I’m hoping after my birthday the song will leave my head, because I love Selena’s music, but the same song over and over really gets on my nerves.

Speaking of birthdays, I want to give a happy birthday shout-out to my blogger friend Jess over at The Owl, The Fox & I!

Oh, and did I mention yesterday was the last day of class and finals are next week?  No?  Okay, well, now y’all know.
