I know something is totally out of whack when it’s 33ºF outside, yet I find that temperature to be real nice.
With the winter we’ve had here in New England, having it be 33ºF outside by 9:30 in the morning is such a relief! I kid you not, for the first time this year it felt like spring is actually going to make an appearance in our region. The funny thing is, it snowed yesterday afternoon and last night. Yeah, there was a ton of snow messing up our driveway, but now it’s melting… at least a little.
So you may or may not know that pretty much all of our snowstorms here in New England happened on Mondays, or Sunday night into Monday, as it happened this week. For three straight weeks between the end of January and February, my Monday class was canceled due to snow, plus two Mondays in that time were holidays. So I’ve had a total of two classes on Mondays since January twelfth because there were five weeks of no classes on Mondays.
What a bummer, huh?
Well, not as much of a bummer as February breaking the record for the coldest month. I have never experienced such a cold winter in my life! I will probably never complain about 20-30ºF temperature ever again after getting up and going to school when it was -13ºF out for most of the month. Though hopefully I’ll be southern-state bound soon after graduation in May, so I won’t have to deal with those temperatures anymore.
Of course, I realize other places had it worse off. I mean, I’m not located as far north as other states like Minnesota or Maine… or as far north as Canada is. I know they have had it much, much worse temperature and storm wise, so I’m grateful I don’t live in those places. However, it doesn’t change the fact that it was still a tough winter for the heart of New England. But with the temperatures looking like they’re going up this coming week, it looks like spring will be arriving in a few short weeks after all.
That doesn’t change the fact that I’m quite shocked that I’m actually having my Monday class for the the second week in a row due to the nice weather today. I’m also shocked that I think 35ºF is nice.
Eh, that will change by November.
Ah – my sentiments exactly!! When it was 38 degrees a couple Sundays ago I felt like I should just leave my jacket at home!
Right?! It’s going to be in the 40s here on Wednesday… I might wear shorts! … Or at least leave my winter coat at home, ha.
It’s supposed to be spring, gosh darn it! Last Friday we had sleet and I happened to slip on some black ice and sprained my ankle. Let’s all move somewhere warm and tropical!
Even the snow & ice does not take away the feeling go spring poking through.
80% of our storms this year have been on Tuesdays. And I would KILL for 33F right now. The warmest we’ve gotten was 14F for an hour or two late morning. I am SO over this winter.
The high today where I am (in CANADA!) is around that and I could not be more excited! Although yesterday it was around -22C (or about -8F) so I’m not holding my breath that it’s going to last. BUT, Spring is coming!
