Everyone has heard of the classic PC game The Sims whether they play it or not. The release of the first in the franchise was 15 years ago on February 4th, 2000 and has since gathered up millions of players. In October 2014, The Sims 4 was released for the Simmers community.
I personally had never been a Simmer mainly because I didn’t see what was so great about playing a video game where there was no purpose, no endgame, no boss to beat at the end… you know what I’m talking about. Plus, I was never much of a PC gamer anyway. For some reason when it comes to PC games I’m completely incompetent, even though there have been releases of the game for other platforms.
In late 2011/early 2012 though, something inside me changed and I really wanted to start playing The Sims. Thankfully for me, they had recently released The Sims 3 for the Xbox 360 (and I had just gotten one for Christmas). I went out and got it and I fell in love with the game! Sometime after I had gotten my Xbox version I went out and got the PC version, however, I still can’t used to the keyboard controls.
So my review on The Sims 3 for the Xbox 360 is that it is a great game and a great alternative to those, like me, who simply can’t play PC games. There are a few downsides to the console version though. The first downside is that you cannot use expansion packs to get new features, levels, items, etc. I for one, really wanted The Sims University, but it is only available as an expansion pack for the PC game. However, they did release The Sims Pets for different consoles as a separate game, I just wish they’d do that with a few other of the PC packs. The only other major downfall, for me anyway, is that you cannot make Sim movies and share them online. That was one thing I was looking forward to and I was disappointed to find out you can’t do this on the Xbox 360 version.
Despite those few minor negatives, the console version of The Sims 3 is fun to play and literally keeps me hooked for hours at a time. So if you aren’t a PC gamer, but you want to play The Sims, I highly suggest The Sims 3 as one of those choices if you have an Xbox 360 or Nintendo Wii.
Hopefully they won’t wait too long to release The Sims 4 for console gamers.
