Obsessed? Me? Not at All…

Thursday, September 17: Just for fun, your latest obsession. What can you not get enough of these days?

The day of obsessions… oh boy.  Let me just say off the bat that when I like something, a lot, I’m very prone to start obsessing about it for a good while.  Sometimes when one particular obsession has been gone for a few months, it will sprout back up again for no reason and I find myself entrapped once again.  Usually, this occurs with certain books, shows or movies that I am a fan of… that’s what I get for joining different fandoms.

I’m not proud of this in the least, but it’s just something that happens.  I mean, it’s not like it controls my life to the point where I don’t do anything else other than obsessing over that particular fandom. I just have a point in time where I binge a show I’ve seen a few times or watch a particular movie 7 times in a row.

Recently, I was obsessed with the new Disney movie Descendants (if you didn’t already know).  I’m not quite as obsessed with the movie as I was before, but I won’t lie and say that I’m not checking back for new fan-fiction updates every few days.

But that’s what my obsession is right now – fan-fiction.  I’ve been finding myself going back and reading old stories that are lodged in my favorites as well as reading ones that I wrote in the past (I cringed at about 90% of them).  All I can say is thank God most of mine are not on fanfiction.net because my early days of writing were not pretty.

That’s my honest, and slightly embarrassing, obsession right now… fan-fiction.

I enjoyed hearing your views on this post and the other one you wrote about fan-fiction. One of the things I started out writing was fan-fiction, blending two or three tv shows into stories. These were way back in the l960s, believe it or not. I didn’t even hear the word until recently. Now I’ve written a fanfic of my favorite book (it’s on my BlogSpot blog). I don’t understand why some look down their noses at people who read and write fan-fiction. It is a legitimate writing form…and fun!

Thank you! I’m happy you enjoyed reading my posts on them!

That’s very cool that you’ve been writing them for a while now :) And I don’t understand why others look down on fan-fiction either. You’re right, it is a legitimate writing form (that is very fun) and I think it’s one of the best ways for new fiction writers to get started! I remember being embarrassed in high school for writing fan-fiction…now I don’t care who knows!

I’m the same way. I have actually deleted my unfinished ff.net stories… minus the one I’m slowly working on currently. I’ve made a pact with myself to not start posting a story on there unless I have a few chapters written and that I will definitely finish the story.
