God is Good

The topic of my devotional this morning was about how God is good and He never changes.  I am a witness to this many times in my life – so many that I couldn’t even list everything He has done for me.  Of course, the most important is the salvation I have through Jesus; nothing is more amazing than that!

With all the disaster and chaos in the world, I can understand why some people find it hard to believe that God is always good.  But what they fail to understand is that it’s not God who is the cause of the evil in the world… it’s Satan.  God isn’t the one who leads us into temptation or leads us to sin.  God is good, and He never changes.

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” – James 1:17

This is something we experience more and more as Christians.  Just because we follow Christ doesn’t mean life is an easy ride for us – which is something that drives people away.  In fact, life can often get harder for us because now that we follow Him, Satan attacks us more to try and drive us away or to make sure we don’t bring others to Christ.  Those who love God find their faith tested, and I’m not going to lie, it isn’t always easy.  But when you’ve seen God come through for you in the past, you’ll know that if you just wait on Him, He will take the bad circumstances in your life and bring good out of them.

I think one of the best examples of this is the story of Joseph in Genesis.  My mom and I love his story – how he kept getting thrown down, but because he knew God was working behind the scenes, he eventually was brought up to a high position in the kingdom and was able to do good for the country.  He knew that if his brothers hadn’t sold him as a slave, he never would’ve ended up where he did, and he made sure to tell his brothers this.

“You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good.  He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.” – Genesis 50:20

Because God never changes, we know that no matter how bad things get in our lives, He will bring good out of it, not because of anything we did, but because of His perfect and unchanging love for us.  This is why He sent Jesus to die on the cross for us – because He loves us and doesn’t want anyone to perish, and instead have everlasting life with Him (John 3:16; paraphrased).

All we have to do is confess that He is Lord, repent of our sins, and believe in Him.  Always.
